Feeding Friendsy: The Sincerest Form of Flattery

(Eingestellt Heute, 00:30 Uhr von ThePedallingPianist)

With thanks to ViKingPrime, Marty and all the other amazing setters whose puzzles are listed at the bottom of this page for putting together and inspiring this wonderful series, and inviting me to be a part of it. Like many others, I've already had one attempt at imitating Marty, and there seemed no sincerer form of flattery than trying again.

SQUISHDOKU: Cells on region borders are shared between multiple boxes.

#FRIENDSHIPGOALS: Fletcher the Flat-Bellied Flamingo is feeling famished! He only eats food if it has been squished; so help to draw a path for him through the nice, flat pancakes to fatten him up, as he makes his way to bed for a post-pancake nap.

The path must not visit any cell more than once, cross itself or pass through any thick, brown crust walls. As well as moving orthogonally, Fletcher may move diagonally — if there's a 2x2 space in which to do so — but may never pass diagonally through the rounded end / corner of a wall.

TELEPORTS: Entering a red teleport will cause Fletcher to be instantly transported to the other teleport. From there he can continue his journey. The teleports contain the same digit.

TRIALS AND TRAILS: In this test of friendship, every segment of Fletcher's path contained entirely within a 3x3 box (segments may overlap) is an index line. The digit in the Nth cell of an index line indicates the position of the digit N on that segment. Positions are counted starting from the first cell visited on the segment. Good luck!

Lösungscode: Digits in row 1 (top) on Fletcher's path, from left to right

I think it is not clear how the path will be segmented under the constraint of squishdoku, and it needs to be explained. Especially the question of which house is the border line.

TPP: Thanks for the comment! I do often prioritise efficiency over clarity when writing rules, often to avoid giving away more than I want to. A path down column 1 would be three 3-cell index lines, one in each box (1, 4 and 7), overlapping in r3c1 and r5c1, but all considered separately. Hopefully this example is helpful.

raaaaa: Thanks for your reply. Really a nice puzzle!

Glorious squishy madness! Love the visuals on this, and I can remember the solve path being very challenging but very fun and clever!

Phew! After a feast like that, I might need to... decompress...
