The full rules, aka
To the Pain:
Normal sudoku wules
**DO NOT** apply.
Normal schrodinger sudoku wules
**DO NOT** apply either.
This one goes to
ELEVEN: Fill the grid with the digits 1-11 such that no digit repeats in a row, column, or box. I recommend using A for 10, and B for 11.
For people to use 11 as the biggest digit, they probably use base 12. Who would naturally invent base 12 rather than base 10? A six-fingered man!
There's an armadillo in there: One cell in every row, column and box has an armadillo inserted. These cells contain two digits instead of one, and their value for the purpose of other clues is the sum of those digits.
Cells of unusual size: One cell in every row, column and box is a C.O.U.S. These cells contain two digits instead of one, and their value for the purpose of other clues is the sum of those digits.
What happened to the
drummer?
Awful things. Bummer.
One cell in every row, column and box is a drummer.
Accidents have happened, so all drummer cells have a value of 0.
Note: None of Drummers, C.O.U.S. and Armadillos can share a cell. If a cell is one of those types, it is not the others.
How shall we rock 'em?
By playing
Big Bottom!
The bottom drummer is the biggest drummer digit in the grid. In fact, every drummer is a larger digit (not value) than all the deceased drummers in the rows above it.
Do
x-sums make sense to you?
I thought they did, but how's one two?
Numbers outside the grid give the sum of the first X values in the corresponding row or column, where X is the value closest to the clue. That initial value can't be 10 or larger.
How about
XV then?
Makes sense, five and ten.
Values separated by a V sum to 5. Values separated by an X sum to 10. Not all XVs are necessarily given.
Next rule to attack?
None more
black.
Values in cells separated by a black dot have a 2:1 ratio. Not all dots are necessarily given.
Rhyming is done?
Yeah, that was last one.
Cleveland Flatmates (aka The Brute Squad)
Hello Cleveland!
All 5s in the grid need a flatmate, or a brute squad partner.
Dutch Flats: Every digit 5 (even those with armadillos), and every value 5 in the grid must have a cell with the value '1' directly above it or a cell with the value '9' directly below it. It may have both, but it doesn't need both.
Special rules for flatmates: Drummers make terrible flatmates. R.O.U.S. are not something you want in a shared house. As a result, Drummers and C.O.U.S. may not be involved in flatmates. Neither can ever contain a digit 5, never have a value 5, neither can be the 1 or 9 value required to satisfy the flatmate rule.
What, that's not enough? You want more flatmate shenanigans?
As you wish...
Extra special flatmates:
It turns out the drummer in row 9 is only mostly dead. They have something worth living for. Toooo Drummmmm. The
*digit* 5 in that drummer's box is a miracle man, attempting to revive the drummer, definitely not part of the brute squad, and he has no flatmates.
The
*digit* 5 in box 5 is a drunken Spaniard who doesn't want to be around anyone, except possibly his armadillo, is currently not in a condition to join the brute squad, and so also has no flatmates.
*Values* of 5 (if they are not the digit 5) in both those boxes require flatmates, as normal.
what about solution check?
ummmmm, ahhhh, oh heck.
It is not solution check's job to be as confused as Nigel, but unfortunately, it kind of is. Solution check will work for the digits 1-9. But it will regard all As and Bs as wrong, so if you need a sanity check (I think I might) or 'puzzle solved' to trigger, you'll need to change As and Bs to centre marks rather than entered digits.
You are the Brute Squad!
Should another rule be quad?
No, they're already complicated rules.
Yeah, I hope the solvers are not fools.
Truly, you have a dizzying intellect,
If you can parse this wall of text.
But just in case, the short version is next.
Let me explain... No, there is too much. Let me sum up:
Double schrodinger sudoku using digits 1-11 (use A for 10 and B for 11)
S-cells x 2 (two independent sets of 1 per row/column/box)
Drummers: another independent set of row/column box, all are value 0 except for row 9, and each drummer *digit* is larger than all drummers in rows above.
standard black kropki, XV, x-sums
Dutch flats: applies to all digits 5, even those in s-cells. Also applies to values of 5. They have a value of 1 above, or a value of 9 beneath.
There are two exceptions. The digit 5 in box 5 and the digit 5 in the same box as row 9's drummer have no flatmates.
5s/their assigned flatmate can not include drummers. The two sets of s-cells are distinct, one can include 5s/flatmates, one can not.
Will you choose to go in against an Australian when puzzles are on the line?
OK, have fun solving the puzzle!
(Do you think they'll finish it?)
(It would take a miracle.)
