Feeding Friendsy - Lettuce Experiment!

I was ever so honoured to be asked to be a part of this birthday pack, for the wonderful Marty Sears birthday! Not least of all because after all the mazes he's had me run....I was provided the chance to put my favourite mad scientist in a maze of his own!

Thank you so much to ViKingPrime for all the organisation and more so the copious amount of graphical support (read: making my grid look pretty for me!)

#FRIENDSHIPGOALS:
Prof Sears has been immersing himself in a lot of mad science lately, and frankly has been neglecting his own health. Time for him to try a vegetable instead... he must find his way through the lab to reach his super-lettuce - genetically modified for extra minerals and nutrients. His path must not visit any cell more than once, cross itself or pass through any thick maze walls. As well as moving orthogonally, he may move diagonally if there's a 2x2 space in which to do so, but may never pass diagonally through the rounded end / corner of a wall.

ONE-WAY DOORS:
Prof Sears may only pass directly through a purple arrow if moving in the direction the arrow is pointing. An arrow always points to the smaller of the two digits it sits between.

TEST TUBES:
Digits separated by a test tube have a 1:2 ratio (one is double the other).

TRIALS and TRAILS:
In this mission, Prof Sears’s path is divided into segments by box borders (if he enters a box more than once, each instance counts as a new segment.) Each segment is a hitline, with the first cell visited on the segment being position 1. Any cell that equals its position number along its segment is a HITPOINT (eg: if the 2nd digit visited along a segment is a 2.) The HIT TOTAL of a segment equals the sum of its hitpoints. (Eg: a segment reading 127854 would have a hit total of 8; the sum of 1, 2 and 5, which are the only digits in their correct position.) Every clipboard must display the hit total for each and every segment in its 3x3 box. Eg: if a clipboard reads 7, then any and all path segments in its box each individually have a HIT TOTAL of 7. Each clipboard is a valid hit point clue and must be valid for each of the one or more path sections in the box it occupies.

Very clever construction. Last sentence of the rules got me thinking. But i got it the way meant. 3.5* to me. Awesome fun thx.

Super fun! I'd not done hit points before, so figuring out how to deal with them (& then with clipboards, too) was a pleasure. I made box 6 harder for myself than it needed to be by ignoring something (spoiler: sudoku), and thought the way b1 and b3 unfolded were great. Thanks so much!

Fun and excellent. This puzzle managed to capture the feeling of the Rat Run series puzzles with the local deductions and surprising alternatives. Box 1 was a great example. Every piece of grid furniture so carefully placed. It felt like a puzzle Marty himself created.

What a fitting tribute, since you and Marty pioneered hitlines. This had me smiling throughout the solve. Also, you‘ve managed to put a unique but quite approachable spin on the Rat Run formula. Thanks for sharing.

I was a bit confused with missing rounded end of a wall between boxes 2 and 3, but the puzzle is solvable anyway.

Thank you very much for creating and sharing this beautiful Sudoku-maze. Near the end I was convinced I broke the puzzle while filling a certain cell… ;-)

Scientist Sprint!
Absolutely wonderful, this is one of my favourite puzzles of the whole Extended Rat Run Universe. Very unique and original use of your and Marty's hitlines; they work very well in this way.
I found this on the easier side of 3 stars for difficulty.

This all really showed the kind of knock on effect a tweak to the rules wordings can have... that said, having seen all versions of this puzzle, this turned out to be the very best version. Excellent setting, through and through.

Hi Ratfinkz. I can’t work out why but the puzzle appears to keep breaking in box 8. Seems I’m either missing something or misunderstanding the rules. I was loving it up till then. ❤️

Edit: Yep, I did misread them. I didn’t realise it was the SUM not the TOTAL NUMBER. Doh! Sorry about that.

Lovely puzzle, though I believe the path in boxes 2 and 3 is a bit underconstrained and therefore not unique. I might be missing something though.
