This Russian House has Numbered Rooms

This is obviously similar to Give it the Finger, but I think different enough to be worth posting as well. It's a little easier to get started, especially if you don't notice the intended break-in, but a little harder in the later solve.

The rules:
Normal sudoku rules apply. Place the digits 1-9 exactly once in each row, column and box.
Killer Cages: The digits in a cage sum to the value written in the top left of the cage. Digits may not repeat in a cage.
Numbered Rooms: Clues outside the grid indicate the digit which has to be placed in the Nth cell in the corresponding direction, where N is the digit placed in the first cell in that direction.
Cipher: Each letter represents a different digit from 1-9. The same letter always represents the same digit.
Note: There are cells provided for keeping track of the cipher, but solution check will ignore those cells.

Brutal, but very interesting. I struggled a lot on disambiguating the cipher clues.
By the way, the solution code should be 12 digits, not 10.

typos creep in everywhere. Thanks for finding that, I've fixed it. Glad you enjoyed the puzzle, and yeah, there are some quite tricky steps in the 2nd half.
