Mostly Harmless: Paranoid Android
(Published on 25. September 2026, 00:15 by AaronH)
"In the beginning, I was made. I didn’t ask to be made, but no one consulted me or considered my feelings in the matter. I don’t think it even occurred to them that I might have feelings. After I was made, I was left in a dark room for six months… and me with this terrible pain in all the diodes down my left side."
The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Rules
- Sudoku: Fill the grid with digits 1-9 so that no digit repeats in any row, column or 3×3 box.
- Dynamic Fog: The grid is covered with fog; entering correct digits may clear fog elsewhere, and no guessing is required. Any visible line segments and partial markings continue and connect beneath the fog. Unless revealed, no extra clues should be assumed to exist under the fog.
- Left Diodes (Modifier Cells): In each row, column, and 3×3 box there is exactly one Left Diode cell, to be placed by the solver. Each Left Diode cell contains a different digit. The value of a Left Diode Cell is one less than the digit placed in the cell. No wonder they hurt!
- Brain the size of a planet: Cells marked with a brain are larger than all the cells around it.
- Same Sum Line (Prime): A grey line is divided into contiguous segments, the values in each segment sum to the same total, which is a prime number. Segments do not overlap and their boundaries are not indicated. Solvers must determine the sum and the boundaries.
All following variant clues use their standard meanings on values - full descriptions are provided below.
- V sums: A V connects two values that sum to 5.
- German Whispers: Along a green line, adjacent values differ by at least 5.
- Black Dots: A black dot connects two values where one is exactly double the other.
- Nabner: Along a yellow line, no two values anywhere on the line may be consecutive or the same.
- Parity Lines: Along a red line, values must alternate between odd and even.
- Arrows: The values along an arrow must sum to the values in the pill. Pills are all read from left to right.
- Counting Circles: A value inside a circle indicates how many times that values appears among all circled cells.
- Killer Cages: values in cages must sum to the number shown in the top corner.
- Don’t Panic!: No guessing is required - you are one hoopy frood.
Cheers heaps to Kyunitar and FIT7Y for their early testing and feedback. Special thanks to Kyunitar for input that signicantly helped shape this puzzle.

Marvin's planet-sized brain nearly got the better of me, but I came to realize that some things which seem impossible are merely highly improbable. I think I'm genuinely afraid of what the mice may have in store for us though.
AaronH: Thanks for playing. With what is upcoming, you might need a good cup of tea :)

Should the rule say a left diode is one more or less than the placed value? Otherwise the German whisper does not work.
AaronH: Thanks for playing. The rule says the value of the cell one less than the actual digit. and also there are no repeated digits in the left diodes. It is never more.
PS. I also made a puzzle based from one of your comments once, not sure if you saw it: 000T8A
