Mostly Harmless: Almost, But Not Quite Entirely, Unlike...

"The way it functioned was very interesting. When the Drink button was pressed it made an instant but highly detailed examination of the subject's taste buds, a spectroscopic analysis of the subject's metabolism and then sent tiny experimental signals down the neural pathways to the taste centres of the subject's brain to see what was likely to go down well. However, no one knew quite why it did this because it invariably delivered a cupful of liquid that was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea. "

Rules

  • Sudoku: Fill the grid with digits 1-9 so that no digit repeats in any row, column or 3×3 box.
  • Dynamic Fog: The grid is covered with fog; entering correct digits may clear fog elsewhere, and no guessing is required. Any visible line segments and partial markings continue and connect beneath the fog. Unless revealed, no extra clues should be assumed to exist under the fog.
  • Almost, but not quite, entirely unlike...: In this puzzle each rule is almost, but not quite, entirely unlike its standard rule. That is, clues are mostly lying to you; however, each clue symbol cluster or individual line does contain a single truth. Every 3x3 box does contain at least one truth. Rules below have been adjusted to describe the effect on them clearly.

There is a positive constraint in this puzzle.

  • ... Global Non-consecutive: Every cell in this puzzle must have at least one orthoganal neighbour that contains a consecutive digit, except for one cell which has no such neighbour.

-- Boxed Clues -- In a box where one of the following clue types appears, all possible clues for that type have been given in that box, that is all of the liars and a single truth.

  • ... Black Dots: Digits separated by a black dot must NOT have one digit be double the other, except for one dot which does.
  • ... V sums: Digits separated by a V must NOT sum to 5, except for one V which does.
  • ... Killer Cages: Digits in a cage must NOT sum to the total in the corner, except for one cage which does.
  • ... Friendly Cells: A cell with a heart must NOT be friendly and does NOT contain the row, column or box number, except for one heart which does.

--Line Clues-- Each individual line in the puzzle will contain a single truth. Depending on the line, the truth may be a single digit or a pair of digits.

  • ... Nabner: Along a yellow line, all digits must form a consecutive set, except for one digit which is not consecutive with any other digit.
  • ... Parity Lines: Along a red line, adjacent cells contain either both odd or both even digits, except for one pair of adjacent cells which contain both an odd and an even digit.
  • ... German Whispers: Along a green line, adjacent digits must have a difference of less than 5, except for one adjacent pair of digits which have a difference of 5 or more.
  • ... Renban: Along a pink line, no two digits anywhere on the line may be consecutive, except for one pair of digits which are consecutive.
  • ... Thermometers: Along a grey thermometer, digits need to decrease from the bulb to the tip, except for one location where it increases for a single step.
  • Don’t Panic!: No guessing is required - you are one hoopy frood.

Cheers heaps to Kyunitar, Nico and FIT7Y for their early testing and feedback.
