Some Difference

(Published on 1. May 2024, 19:13 by marty_sears)

I'm a big fan of the new Somedoku format, invented by the brilliant BlackJackFitz.) For a while I've been wanting to make my own one, so here it is :)

Rules:

  • 0-8 Somedoku: Fill each cell with a digit from 0-8. For every row 'n' and column 'n' there are exactly 'n' unique digits. The remaining cells are filled with repeats.
  • Same Difference: Each pair of adjacent digits on a turquoise line have the same difference. This difference must be determined for each turquoise line. If there is a diamond present, its digit indicates the difference value of the line. Not all possible diamonds are necessarily given.
  • Different Difference: No two pairs of adjacent digits anywhere on a peach line may have the same difference. Eg: if there is a 2 next to a 4 on a peach line, there can't be a 5 next to a 7 anywhere on the same line.
  • Note: A connected, branching line is considered to all be the same line.
  • Kropki: If two digits are joined by a black dot, one is double the other.

Made the same mistake that I do on every Somedoku. You know the one: assuming that the 2 digits that appear in row 2 must be the same 2 that are in column 2. Every. Single. Time.

Restart, retry, got there eventually. Another lovely solve, thanks Marty

I am brand new to somedoku and bad at it, so I had to restart several times. But it was a lot of fun, and I learned some neat stuff. Thanks for the puzzle.

It felt so pleasant solving this one! Thank you for this beauty! I was stuck early on, but solution code question made me look into a different area.

Really great logic to this one. Marty has taken the reins of Somedoku and ran with it.

Haha, it went so smooth and quickly at first! Until it broke and I realized I had made a false assumption about the rules...

Once I fixed that, it was a difficult but very enjoyable and never frustrating solve :)

Loved this one! Pretty tough for me, but it was a great learning experience. Gorgeous setting, really unique.

Wonderful logic on the blue lines. Both constraints here pair very well with the somedoku ruleset.
