Happy birthday Gabi!! For your birthday, it has been decided that the birthday puzzle will combine a standard crypto Japanese Sums with Pentopia. There is nothing new with the Japanese sums or the cryptification, but to make sure we are clear, the letters A through I replace unique values from 1 to 9, and values to be written in cells are also from 1 to 9. We also know you like skyscrapers, so we put standard skyscraper clues on the right and bottom of the grid.

We define a pentomino as a group of exactly 5 orthogonally connected black cells. No pentomino may appear more than once in the finished solution, even considering rotations and reflections. Note that in the finished solution, there also may be black cells that do not form pentominos! And, unlike standard pentopia, pentominos may touch diagonally.

The cells inside the grid with arrow clues point to the nearest pentominos in the indicated directions. None of these clue cells may be blackened, and further, the digit placed in these cells rotate the clue by 45 degrees multiplied by the digit clockwise (because only a maniac would have clues rotate anticlockwise). If the clue ends up aligned on a diagonal axis, the clue instead indicates the nearest diagonal directions with pentominos instead of orthogonal directions.

As a final clarification, a standard (orthogonal) pentopia clue will never consider pentominos in the four diagonal directions from that cell, and likewise a diagonal pentopia clue will not consider pentominos in the four orthogonal directions from that cell!

@Luigi: The clues are pentopia clues, they indicate the direction of the nearest pentominos; the clues, nor the digits placed on the clue digits, do not say anything about the distance to those pentominos. For example, if Row 3 Column 5 was a '2', then the nearest pentomino in the four cardinal directions (up, down, left, and right) would be left.

Likewise, if that same cell was a '3', then the nearest pentomino in the four diagonal directions would be in the northwest direction. I hope this helps!
