Medieval Upheaval 2

(Eingestellt am 6. Januar 2023, 08:00 Uhr von Nordy)

Sequel to Medieval Upheaval.

This puzzle explores different implications of the ruleset, so you may find the "feel" of the puzzle quite different from its predecessor. Enjoy!

Rules:

Chaos Construction: Place the digits 1 to 9 in every row, column, and irregular region. Each region is a set of nine orthogonally connected cells that must be determined.

Kings, Knights, and Rooks

  • Squares—King Sums: Digits in cells with squares are the sum of all digits that share its region and are a king's move away.
  • Circles—Knight Sums: Digits in cells with circles are the sum of all digits that share its region and are a knight's move away.
  • Diamonds—Rook Sightlines: Digits in cells with diamonds indicate the number of cells seen by rook’s move in all directions combined, including the cell with the diamond. Region borders obstruct vision.

White Pieces and Black Pieces

  • White Dots: Digits joined by a white dot are in different regions and must be consecutive.
  • Black Dots: Digits joined by a black dot are in the same region and must be in a 1:2 ratio.

Not all squares, circles, diamonds, or dots are necessarily given.

Example: Below is an example that shows valid ways to fulfill each clue type.

Solve Online:

  • CTC
  • Penpa+ (answer check on blue Sudoku and green edges)

Lösungscode: The digits in Column 7 from top to bottom, followed by the number of unique regions in Column 7 (10 digits total)

This is the definition of a "well constructed chaos construction".

Fantastic puzzle! Great logic throughout for the region building!

Definitely a 5* for me. Break-in is easy but then it becomes gradually harder. In the endgame i was able to fill in all the digits without yet completing all the regions, which led to some perplexing moments but then i saw what the solution code needed ! Clever :) Thanks, @ Nordy :)

Smooth solve, if not falling in all well laid out traps :-). thanks
