Box killer sudoku

(Published on 20. August 2020, 11:06 by udukos)

This is the first puzzle of this series. I have created another one after this, which in my opinion, is a bit harder. If you had like to give that a shot too, you can try it

here.

Now for this puzzle. Normal sudoku rules apply.

An area surrounded by a dashed line will be called a cage. Digits may not repeat within a cage. Within every 3*3 box (marked by thick black lines), all the killer cages have the same sum. Also, killer cage sums are unique for every 3*3 box i.e if box 1 (top left box) had killer cages each of which sum up to 10, then none of the other boxes can have killer cages with a sum of 10. The killer cage sums are not given and have to be deduced.

Here is an example on a 6 x 6 grid (3 x 2 boxes):

Good luck. Have fun.

I just stumbled over this puzzle and deeply enjoyed solving it. I found it quite challenging, but the logic was so nice that I never lost motivation to look for new ideas. Very cool setting!
