To Catch a Killer - An anti-knight killer sudoku

(Eingestellt am 3. Juli 2020, 15:42 Uhr von SirWoezel)

Note that this puzzle is a sequel to this puzzle, in which King Kuudos was killed by one of his children.

It is not a good thing when your Chief of Police is an idiot. And calling Sir Praxton an idiot is definitely a euphemism. This pompous dandy spends most of his time admiring himself in anything that will reflect his image, which -by the way- is more or less what earned him his nickname ‘Sir Prancelot’.

Still, justice needs to be done! King Kuudos is starting to smell a bit on account of being dead for a week now, so a breaktrough in the investigation is highly wanted! Praxton actually did find out that one of the royal siblings obviously always lies about anything related to the murder, while the other one always tells the truth. But sadly he is too stupid to find out which of them is the liar. This is why we urge you to take over once more.

What we like you to do:

- Ask the right question!

- Complete the puzzle with the middle 3x3-section that corresponds with the number of the question you chose (Clicking on the question of your choice takes you to the puzzle in Eric Fox’s wonderful webtool)

- Carefully weigh the answers you get from the prince and princess (their answers will be the sum of the long diagonals!).

- Deduce and reveal who of them killed King Kuudos!

Keep in mind: The princess is the 28 year old kid, the prince is 29. And one of them always lies about the murder while the other one always tells the truth.

The questions you can ask (so sorry about this, but Sir Prancelo.... Praxton insisted on putting his suggestions on the list too, and he is still the Chief...):

1. Confess, you scoundrel! You killed King Kuudos, right?

2. Which of you is not lying when they say they are innocent?

3. Hah! I’ve got you now! The age of the murderer is not lower than 29! No wait, that's not a question!

4. So what will your brother/sister answer if I ask who the murderer is?

5. Huh!? What are we doing here again?

6. Say, would you/your sister go out with me once we hanged your brother/you?

Apart from that, the rules are simple:

- To mock the stupidity of Sir Praxton, there is an anti-knight constraint, so cells with the same digit cannot be a knight's move apart.

- It’s a killer sudoku: digits in coloured areas add up to the number in the upper left corner. And digits may not repeat in these areas.

The (sums of the) long diagonals will be the answers the royal kids give to your question. These will make it possible (if you ask the right question that is...) to tell who the murderer is.

Highlight the next line if you can't figure out which is the right question to ask!

Select question number 4.

Lösungscode: The solution code is the identity of the murderer (28 or 29) directly followed by column 5 and row 9.

Quite knotty, but enjoyable one thanks. And what a backstory.

Really nice! Significantly harder than the first one, but I got there. Good to finally know who killed the king. Can't say I'm surprised :)
