Fortress Fillomino - Twins (8x8)

(Published on 16. October 2026, 16:45 by ThePedallingPianist)

Welcome to the world, my beautiful baby boys Fletcher and Rory (puzzle coming soon)!

Click here to solve the puzzle on a single 8x8 grid (the main link shows two copies of the grid side by side).

FORTRESS FILLOMINO:
• Divide the grid into orthogonally connected regions and fill each cell with a number (not necessarily single-digit) showing the number of cells in the region to which it belongs;
• Each region must be either strictly larger than all of its orthogonal neighbours or strictly smaller than all of its orthogonal neighbours.

MEHRDEUTIGE:
• The grid shows a puzzle with many solutions;
• Find one pair of solutions in which, for each equivalently positioned given digit, in one solution it is part of a region that is larger than all of its orthogonal neighbours, and in the other solution it is not.

Solution code: The absolute difference (no negative numbers) between the numbers in equivalent positions of column 8 (rightmost) in each grid, top to bottom

Brilliant. Even though a bit small on phone screen, glad I used the two grid as it was easier to visualise the interactions with both grids visible.

The rightmost grid was a little harder than the leftmost. Is there a deeper meaning of life hidden there?

Congratulations.
