Extension Cord 105: Bomb Cyclone

(Published today, 08:30 by FireTruckFuel)

Welcome to the final installment of the Extension Cord series. If you haven't checked out my previous series entries yet, I recommend that you do so. It will make this puzzle easier to complete, (approximately 2 stars instead of 3). Just click on these links: Extension Cord 101: Renban ;Extension Cord 102: Zipper ;Extension Cord 103: Parity Sums ;Extension Cord 104: Whispering Arrows

This series has centered on an original clue type of my own design called the Extension Cord, and what an honor it has been to work on this series for you. I've wanted to create a puzzle with an original clue type for some time, so over the holidays, I took time to reflect on my first year of setting and publishing. I've taken the most joy from working on puzzles with line-style clues, but with so many different lines out there already, it's been hard to come up with something original that wasn't too complex. I hope solving this series has brought you as much joy as setting it has for me. Helpful comments are welcome.

Solve on Sudokupad

Normal Sudoku rules apply. Digits on either side of a white Kropki dot are consecutive. Digits on the pink Renban line form a consecutive non-repeating set of digits. Digits along the red Parity line alternate between odd and even. Adjacent digits along the orange Dutch Whisper must have a difference of 4 or more. Digits on the yellow Nabner line form a non-consecutive set and do not repeat. Adjacent digits along the green German Whisper must have a difference of 5 or more. Box borders divide the blue Region Sum line into segments with identical sums. Digits an equal distance (such as r6c5 and r8c6) from the marked center (r8c5) of the violet Zipper line have identical sums, equal to the digit in the marked central cell.

Digits along an arrow must sum to the digit in the arrows circle. Each arrow circle on the Extension cord is also part of exactly one double arrow. The digits in two connected arrow circles, and the digits between them along the Extension Cord, must have the same sum.

A black Extension Cord line connects all other lines and arrows it touches so that, segments of the same line type are joined together by adjacent ends along its stretch, and double arrows are created when it connects two arrow circles. The length and path of an Extension Cord does not need to be assumed. It continues underneath other lines and does not branch unless specified. It may begin and end outside the grid to clarify its path or length.

Brilliant again. What a nice interaction between all different clue types and if you’re stuck - just look where else the line is ;-).

I appreciate your comments throughout the series. I've definitely learned a few things this week about how I will adjust my approach if I ever have another series of puzzles. It was mentioned in the rules but I didn't really give the EC's any opportunities to "branch" because it's an idea I still haven't fully fleshed out yet. I don't have any more puzzles ready to publish at this time but that's probably the direction I will be going next. If you have any ideas you would like to see, feel free to add an edit here or add a hidden comment if you prefer. Thanks again for the insights, cheers.
