Sudoku Variants Series (447) - Remote German Whisper Dots

(Published on 24. October 2025, 06:00 by Richard)

For this Sudoku Variants Project I have planned to publish a unique Sudoku variant every week.
I will see how long it takes before I am running out of ideas.

Remote German Whisper Dots
Apply classic sudoku rules.
In all cases where two horizontal or vertical adjacent digits have a difference of five or more, a green dot has to be placed between those digits. Digits placed on an arrow indicate the exact number of green dots that have to be placed in the direction of the arrow. Not all possible arrows have been given.

Inspiration for this type comes from gdc.

Solve online in Sudokupad.

Solution code: Row 7

Thanks. Easy break in but the last arrow took me as much time as all the other ones together. ;-)

Had a couple of false starts, but this was really fun, and it was pretty easy to find a way to start, too.

Reply: thanks (again!) for your kind words.
That's what I thought too. After picking the low hanging fruit there are not much places left where to find the real place to proceed. ;-)

Glad I was able to inspire an entry in your series. Very neat take on the rule. Not too hard, but I understand why it got rated as 3*.
---
Reply: thanks! And yes, I understand that too.
In fact it is the second time that you have inspired me, but maybe you have missed SVS #426? ;-)

Thank you very much for creating and sharing another beautiful SVS-episode.

Fun! Is there some reason why you don't give penpa links anymore, btw? Personally I prefer solving on penpa, and in this puzzle it would have the added benefit that you can actually input green dots. It's not a big deal for me, though, sudokupad works fine!
---
Hi Piatato, thanks for solving and your positive comment (as always! :-))
I simply assumed that the interest in solving in Penpa is declining, since the Sudokupad app is so populair. And the number of graphic possibilities is larger in sudokupad. But I can easily provide a penpa link from now on again if you like.
---
Reply 2: are you aware that in the sudokupad app you can draw the crosses like in the example by switching on the pen tool markings in the settings menu?
