Square End Table (Thermo/Renban/Whisper etc.)

I've made a puzzle out of the floor plan of my flat. There's a corner sofa, coffee table and TV watching section in the top left, and a nice kitchenette in the bottom right, along with some privacy screens. Sorry, got distracted there... Consensus testing opinion was 3 stars, but I think some will find it easier and some harder. Please see hint and solution guide if it seems impregnable. Good luck!
- Normal sudoku rules apply: Place the digits 1 to 9 once each in every row, column, and 3x3 box
- Renban: Digits along a magenta renban line must form a non-repeating consecutive sequence in any order
- Thermometer: Digits along a grey thermometer must strictly increase from the bulb end
- German Whisper: Adjacent digits along a green line must differ by at least 5
- Region Sum Line: Box borders divide a blue line into segments with the same sum

The opening of this puzzle uses a trick, if you see it the opening should be approachable, if you don't you could be hard stuck. The trick is..

What a fantastic puzzle! Thank you so much for the solve guide too. I always appreciate setters written hints because that’s how i learned to solve. I managed to clumsily brute force each step then go to the document to see the elegant proof. I feel like a much better solver now!
