Sum by X and Disjoint Groups Crypto Sudoku

Sum by X and Offset/Disjoint groups Sudoku

Apply classic Sudoku rules : Each row, column and bold-outlined region must contain the digits 1-9 once.

In addition :

  • Sum by X : Clues oustside the grid indicates the sum of the first X digits in the corresponding direction. X is the digit in the first shaded cell from that same direction.
  • Offset/Disjoint Groups : No digit can appear in the same position in different 3x3 regions.

Furthermore, every Sum by X clue is crypted, thus every letter from A-J represents a digit from 0-9. Different letters represent different numbers. Letters in cells correspond to the digit in the cell. A ? can hold any value from 0-9.

Note :

  • No meaningless 0s can appear in the clues (e.g. a "5" clue cannot be written as "05").
  • The number AB represent the number for which A is the tens digit, and B the units. It does not means A*B.

You can find other Crypto sudokus I made here :

You can use Penpa-edit for solving it on your browser. Here is the puzzle with a reference table to keep track of the values.

Solution code: Row 4, followed by column 6.

Love the cryptic letter concept and the logic of that. Disjoint cells were a bit tiresome in terms of scanning but everything else really good!

@Mosti_Mo Consider a 3x3 region with its cells. You can take the middle cell for example. If you place X in the middle of one box, X can no longer be placed in the middle of any other 3x3 box. This applies to each cell in 3x3 regions. http://www.cross-plus-a.com/fr/sudoku.htm#Sudoku-DG (The page may be in french, but the picture is here)

@marcmees The Sum by X variant often uses a pattern of shaded cells along the main diagonals (to form an X). Digits may repeat along the diagonals. It does leave shaded cells useless in some cases.
