Feeding Friendsy: The Sincerest Form of Flattery

(Eingestellt am 7. Oktober 2026, 00:30 Uhr von ThePedallingPianist)

With thanks to ViKingPrime, Marty and all the other amazing setters whose puzzles are listed at the bottom of this page for putting together and inspiring this wonderful series, and inviting me to be a part of it. Like many others, I've already had one attempt at imitating Marty, and there seemed no sincerer form of flattery than trying again.

SQUISHDOKU: The grid is divided into nine 3x3 boxes, which overlap on dashed lines. Place a digit in each cell such that there are no repeats in any rows, columns or boxes.

#FRIENDSHIPGOALS: Fletcher the Flat-Bellied Flamingo is feeling famished! He only eats food if it has been squished; so help to draw a path for him through the nice, flat pancakes to fatten him up, as he makes his way to bed for a post-pancake nap.

The path must not visit any cell more than once, cross itself or pass through any thick, brown crust walls. As well as moving orthogonally, Fletcher may move diagonally — if there's a 2x2 space in which to do so — but may never pass diagonally through the rounded end / corner of a wall.

TELEPORTS: Entering a red teleport will cause Fletcher to be instantly transported to the other teleport. From there he can continue his journey. The teleports contain the same digit.

TRIALS AND TRAILS: In this test of friendship, every segment of Fletcher's path contained entirely within a 3x3 box is an Index Line. These segments may overlap, meaning some cells may be part of multiple Index Lines. The digit in the Nth cell of an Index Line indicates the position of the digit N on that segment. Positions are counted starting from the first cell visited on the segment. Good luck!

Lösungscode: Digits in row 1 (top) on Fletcher's path, from left to right

Far from fit for feeble and fearful fact finders. For fleet footed forgers of famous feats, your future is festooned with fascinating flourishes!

Finally finished. For fantastic fuzzle: fanks.

Unbelievably, I didn't mention in the rules that digits don't repeat in rows, columns or boxes. Even more unbelievably, nobody picked me up on it!

That was my first squishdoku and it was a very odd one. Fun though, always love finding a puzzle that's different from any I solved before.

Spectacular!

It is absolutely incredible how the constraints force such a narrow solve path!

Flamingo Flight!
It took me a long time to get my head around this one - I haven't done a lot of squishdoku before. But once I did, it wasn't that difficult to keep moving forward.
Really nice, 4 stars for difficulty.

Found this one very hard, but eventually found all the pieces needed to get there!

It was really fun figuring out all the little secrets that were hidden behind the combination of these rules. Very interesting and clever! Thank you, ThePedallingPianist!

Thank you very much for creating and sharing this great maze puzzle - even though it’s squished …

Very nice puzzle! I actually solved this in a reasonable amount of time, and it was quite a fun solving journey! Thanks for setting this puzzle, ThePedallingPianist! :D

A real mind squisher this one, especially if you have very little experience in squishdoku. But once you get a grasp on the implications of the ruleset, it turns into a very satisfying path finding quest. Very fun overall! Thanks :)

I think it is not clear how the path will be segmented under the constraint of squishdoku, and it needs to be explained. Especially the question of which house is the border line.

---

TPP: Thanks for the comment! I do often prioritise efficiency over clarity when writing rules, often to avoid giving away more than I want to. A path down column 1 would be three 3-cell index lines, one in each box (1, 4 and 7), overlapping in r3c1 and r5c1, but all considered separately. Hopefully this example is helpful.

raaaaa: Thanks for your reply. Really a nice puzzle!

Glorious squishy madness! Love the visuals on this, and I can remember the solve path being very challenging but very fun and clever!
