This time the rat must watch her step — she is running through a minefield. Help her reach the cake safely. Inspired by Marty Sears' Rat Run.
Sudoku: Place digits 0–8 so that each digit appears exactly once in every row, column, and 3×3 box.
Edge mines: Each digit equals the total number of mines on that cell’s four edges (top, bottom, left, right). Each edge holds 0, 1, or 2 mines.
Given edges: Every outer-frame edge is marked, as are the four edges of the rat cell and the cake cell.
• blue = 0 mines
• red = 1 mine
• red with a red × = 2 mines
Rat run: The cell r1c7 is the rat (digit 4), and the cell r9c2 is the cake (digit 5). An orthogonal path joins them without revisiting a cell. Every edge that path crosses has 0 mines, and the path is a region-sum line: box borders split it into segments, and every segment, including both end segments, has the same sum. The path is inside the board.
Deduce and mark the remaining edges yourself (Pen tool under Settings ⚙).
TIPS: This is a hybrid of Sudoku and Minesweeper. You need both Sudoku rules and the fact that adjacent digits share the mine count on their common edge. For example, an 8 forces 2 mines on each of its four edges, so none of its four neighbors can be 0 or 1. Likewise, none of the four neighbors of a 0 can be 7 or 8.The figure below shows one possible arrangement of digits in a box, together with mines on edges:
Mind the Edge ! #0: 000VE7.
Mind the Edge ! #2: 000UZC.
Mind the Edge ! #3: 000V0U.
Mind the Edge ! #5: 000VES.
Mind the Edge ! #6: 000VF7.

However, this puzzle can be solved solely based on the rules of minesweeper, and the concept of rat run is not utilized at all.

The final mine layout still has one small loose end, but I'm so glad to bring Mind the Edge and Rat Run together — they suit each other perfectly. Thank you all for supporting and enjoying the whole series, and thank you, Marty!
