Chaos Construction Meta Rules Series (1) - Cyclic Consecutive

(Published on 28. October 2026, 19:20 by Phistomefel)

This is the start to a small series of chaos constructions where the rules have certain implications which are needed for the solution. The name of the series is inspired by a comment of mihel111. Many thanks! :)

The first puzzle is a minitiature and should therefore be relatively easy. Here are the rules:
  1. Divide the grid into 6 orthogonally connected regions. Every row, column and region contains the digits 1–6 exactly once. Some region boundaries are given and have to be respected.
  2. The cells on a purple line contain a set of distinct, (normally, not cyclically) consecutive digits, in any order.
  3. For digits 1–6, the cyclic consecutive is the next digit in the cycle 1→2→3→4→5→6→1.
  4. If two orthogonally adjacent cells are separated by a region boundary, the bottom digit must be the cyclic consecutive of the top digit, or the right digit must be the cyclic consecutive of the left digit, respectively.
The puzzle is also available online via CTC-App. Have fun solving!

I'm sorry for misjudging the difficulty which surely caused some frustration. For those who are interested, I will leave a hidden comment with the intended solution path.

@olima: It seems that was the catch. ^^;

I'm pretty sure I found some nice meta rules, but I was guessing and testing so much. There has to be more to this than i expected.

You are very welcome, Sensei. I think I found one meta rule. I'm guessing I'm missing another.

Very fun little puzzle! However, I suspect I missed some global restriction as this felt much harder than 2 stars with lots of case checking. I look forward to and dread the future full-sized puzzles!

I've just read Phistomefel's intended solve path; interestingly it was only step #2 that I didn't spot, which in retrospect is really not that difficult. I sort of backed into the correct conclusions by eliminating all other options rather than formulating my question the right way.

Lovely puzzle! The ruleset leads to very interesting region building. Looking forward to the next one. Thanks, Phistomefel! :)
