Patrick messed up again by Patrick Junke
Rules:
Variant Sudoku rules:
Place the digits 1—9 so that each digit appears exactly once in every 3x3 box and in almost every row and column. The exceptions are the rows and columns indicated by the arrows, where one odd digit may be repeated once (all other digits appear at most once).
Unlike 5, the digits 1, 3, 7 and 9 cannot be the repeated digit in more than one row or column (e.g. if a 1 is repeated in a column, it cannot be repeated in any other column or row).
Orthogonally adjacent cells rules:
Two orthogonally adjacent digits sum to 10 if and only if there is a line between them (box borders included).
Two orthogonally adjacent digits sum to 12 if and only if there is a red dot between them.
No two orthogonally adjacent digits sum to 3.
Here is a link to a SudokuPad version of the grid.
Series of hints (highlight the space below to reveal):
1. [put in the rules now] Note that box borders are also lines separating digits summing to 10.
2. Begin considering the cells from R3C5 to R3C8.
3. Track the parity of the cells in the grid.
4. Don't forget negative rules : 10, or 12 summing adjacent digits not allowed where it's not indicated (3 not allowed at all).

Great puzzle! I needed the first hint to get started, but after that it was smooth sailing.
Patrick> Hi ManlyPebbles, thank you for your feedback!
I'm quite concerned about the fact that you needed the first hint, maybe I tried to be too smart and I should precise that more directly in the rules...
ManlyPebbles> It is possible that I just didn't think hard enough on the clues. After I saw the hint, it was quite obvious.
Let's wait and see what other (smarter) people have to say.
It was a really fun puzzle, especially with rules that I am not used to.
Patrick> With the average attention time used to choose to do or not a variant puzzle, I don't want to take risks loosing potential players. (Besides I saw quite quickly that something was wrong - 0 solves in 2 hours, that's why I added hints.)

Adding a series of hints.
