X-Variants

(Eingestellt am 2. September 2026, 01:19 Uhr von RockyRoer)

Since my last puzzle introducing range was so popular, I'll post one that was inspired by it.

The Rules:

  1. [6x6 Sudoku] In each 6x6 grid, normal sudoku rules apply: Fill every row, column and 2x3 region with the digits from 1 to 6 once each.
  2. [X-Variants] The clues surrounding each grid are X-Min, X-Max, X-Range, X-Mean, or X-Median clues. All clues around a grid are the same type, but which grid is which type must be determined. All types are used. The 3 clue touching more than one grid must be valid for both.
    Explanation of each type:
    • X-min: The minimum value of the first x cells seen from the direction of the clue, where x is the digit in the cell next to the clue.
    • X-max: The maximum value of the first x cells seen from the direction of the clue, where x is the digit in the cell next to the clue.
    • X-range: The difference between the maximum and minimum values of the first x cells seen from the direction of the clue, where x is the digit in the cell next to the clue.
    • X-mean: The average value of the first x cells seen from the direction of the clue, where x is the digit in the cell next to the clue, defined as the sum divided by the number of cells.
    • X-median: The median value of the first x cells seen from the direction of the clue, where x is the digit in the cell next to the clue. For an odd x, the median is the middle value. For an even x, the median is the average of the two middle values. 536124 would have a 3 on the left (the five digits 53612 sorted are 12356 with 3 in the middle) or a 3 on the right (the digits 1,2,4,6 have 2 and 4 as middle digits with a average of 3.)

At first glance I thought I couldn’t solve this quintuple at all. But of course I had to try. And then I found the answer to the question Which is which? within a few minutes! Thank you very much for creating and sharing this wonderful set of puzzles.

Loved it! This was a lot of fun to solve, and not actually as difficult as I thought it might be. Thanks for setting!
