& The Pi Guy.
These puzzles were set as part of August’s ‘Red v Blue - Battle-style setting’ monthly puzzle prompt on the CTC Discord (inspired by SudokuCon being in Manchester, UK). The Book Wyrm & I decided to give it a try as it sounded fun and it certainly was. The 6 by 6 is a puzzle I set to help introduce the ruleset, which is an adaptation of my very first rule idea, while the 9 by 9 is the puzzle that we set together by alternating adding a clue at a time. Hope that people enjoy them both. :)
(Note: Please use the rating system for the 9 by 9 only, not for both puzzles. The solution code is also for the 9 by 9.)
RULES
Sudoku: Put the digits 1 to 6 (warm up) / 1 to 9 (main) once each into every row, column & 3 by 3 box.
Parity areas: Each cell in the grid is part of a parity area (to be determined). The digits in a parity area of size n must be the same parity and no bigger than the nth term of that parity e.g. a parity area of size 2 will either consist of the digits 1 & 3 (the 1st & 2nd odd) or the digits 2 & 4 (the 1st & 2nd even).
Areas may contain repeats and areas of the same parity may share an edge.
Red circles: A digit in a cell with a red circle gives the size of that cell’s parity area.
Areas may contain more than one circle.
Area sum lines: Each blue line will be split into sections by the
area boundaries. The sections on each blue line must have the same sum (for that line) and every line must visit at least 2 parity areas. [Note (main): The blue lines continue under the circles.]
