This is the second Still Life puzzle I made.
More puzzles using this ruleset were popularized by Kafkapharnaum and Sktx

Rules:

Normal sudoku rules apply
Place the digits 1 to 9 in each row, column, and 3x3 box.

Kropki Dots
Digits separated by a white dot are consecutive. Not all dots are given.

Still Life

Shade some cells green ("live cells") such that the – up to – eight cells neighboring each green cell contain exactly 2 or 3 other green cells and the neighbors of each 'unshaded' – or grey – cell ("dead cells") do not contain exactly 3 green cells
– A CIRCLED cell's digit indicates the number of cells that are in the SAME state as its own in its neighborhood, INCLUDING its own cell
– A SQUARED cell's digit indicates the number of cells that are in a DIFFERENT state from its own in its neighborhood (therefore not including its own cell)
Not all circled and squared cells are given.

Play the puzzle on Sudokupad

Lösungscode: The digits in the dead cells of column 9 (top to bottom) followed by the alive cells in row 9 (left to right)

What a puzzle ! I got lucky by choosing a random orientation that happened to be the correct one - and it still took me more than 3h.

Very clever and very hard ! I hope it gets more visibility. Thank you for setting.

Thank you for solving! I'm glad you liked it!

Puh! Your remark saved me from getting insane. I had all numbers in circles and sqaures and all coloring but was far away from a unique solution. Then I read your comment and checked that I forgot the little kropki.
This one hint gave me the missing 28 numbers.

--------

It does kind of fit in with the rest of the circles, ahahah!

Oof, that one was on its own special level of hard – certainly I had to resort to some… creative tactics to solve it, as I was just not able to juggle it all from pencilmarks alone. It was Samish who convinced me that it is a legitimate tactic when faced with 100% symmetrically branching paths to just follow the logic of one, and then flip it when a particular requirement needs to be met on one side but cannot… or if the puzzle just breaks lol

But here because of the vertical and horizontal aspects, I had to pretty much do that twice at once, phew! I have no idea if I’d be able to solve it from pencilmarks alone, as to be able to, well, pencilmark cells, one has to at least have some idea of the Still Life at that point. Pretty insane that this is somehow unique both from a sudoku and Still Life perspective though – you’re a force to be reckoned with, curious to see what else you’ll come up with! XD

--------

Thank you, I hoped to get away with only one `extra' achiral mark, but forcing the still life to be unique took two sadly. Overall I'd say it is best to solve it in one direction and check if it is the `correct' one.

I'm very happy you liked it and found the puzzle challenging, as knowing the solution it becomes harder to judge the true difficulty.

As of now I have no clue what I will try to set next
