Sum Toss

(Published on 6. August 2026, 20:11 by RockyRoer)

The Rules:

  1. [Sudoku]: Fill every row, column, and region with the digits from 1 to 9 once each.
  2. [Sum Toss]: Two cells with corresponding letters coordinate to toss their sum into a another cell: If one cell contains m and the other cell contains n (which may, in fact, be equal) then the sum m+n must be placed in a cell that is a distance of n steps away from the cell containing n and is also m steps away from the cell containing m. Distance is measured Taxicab style (also called Manhattan Distance) measuring the minimum number of orthogonal steps (up, down, left, right) to travel between two cells on the grid.
    • Example: In the 9x9 puzzle, if R1C1 = 4 and R1C2 = 5 then R5C1 must be 9 as it's the only square that's 4 spaces away from R1C1 and 5 spaces away from R1C2.

Example Puzzles: Here's an example puzzle, and its solution. The half colored cells 'toss' their sum into the fully colored cell. Try This example puzzle using Sven's Sudoku Pad (estimated 2/5 stars difficulty)

The Puzzle:

Try it on Sven's SudokuPad

Solution code: The column containing the digit tossed by B. For the example puzzle, this is 465123

Very interesting rule, had to backtrack a couple of times after making some wrong asumptions but enjoyed it a lot.

Very nice. The consequences of the rule need some preparation, but then everything falls into place.
Thanks
