Sleepy Farmers (CC)

(Published on 26. July 2026, 12:33 by gdc)

Third approachable chaos construction in a row. According to testers (thanks everyone!) this should be the easiest of them at around 1.5 stars. Hope you enjoy!

Rules
Chaos Construction: Divide the grid into orthogonally connected farms, and place 1-7 once each in every row, column and farm.
Sheep: Digits joined by a sheep are consecutive and in the same farm.
Farmers: A digit on a farmer counts the number of sheep in his farm.

Overall, incredibly enjoyable puzzle! I found this really hard finding the break-in in the sudoku part of the sudoku. It was a 3* break-in for me, but maybe I missed something obvious.

[Edit] Here's something I wrote to gdc, which he politely humored, even though I was missing something very obvious :)

@gdc: the rules don't say that each farm only contains one farm. It does say "A digit on a farmer counts the number of sheep in **his farm**" so I can deduce it's one-farmer-per-farm, but it's not spelled out.

---

gdc: I deliberately don't include a rule that a farm cannot contain more than one farmer. It is true that the possessive "his" could be interpreted like that, but that wasn't my intent. I'll go more into detail in a hidden comment.

1.5 star for me, with a small stumble towards determining the last two farms' borders. Had to go back dozens of steps to see my mistake, but it never felt particularly difficult. Lovely CC puzzle!

Good puzzle but a bit too hard to be considered "approachable"

Brilliant, lovely theme! The break-in of the sudoku part of the puzzle was quite tricky, but overall a 2 star puzzle. Thanks
