Wormhole in my Pocket

(Published on 24. July 2026, 16:09 by TrivialHomology)

Oops, there's a worm hole in my sudoku grid again, but now its smaller!

Rules
  • Standard Sudoku 6x6 rules apply. Place the digits 1-6 once each in every line, column and 2×3 box.
  • Cosmic Yin Yang. Divide the grid into shaded (matter) and unshaded cells (antimatter), such that:
    • No 2x2 area of the grid is completely shaded or completely unshaded.
    • The shaded and unshaded cells each form one orthogonally connected region, however:
    • R6C4 and R6C6 are wormholes (indicated by the purple shaded circles). These two cells are considered orthogonally adjacent with regard to the shading rules.
  • Values. The value of a matter cell is 1 more than the digit it contains. The value of an antimatter cell is 1 less than the digit it contains.
  • Comets (Arrows). The value of a comet cell (orange circle) is the sum of all values on the corresponding tail (orange-yellow line) of the comet.
  • White moons (Kropki dots). White dwarfs (white dots) sit between a shaded and unshaded cell. Cells separated by a white dwarf have consecutive values.

Solution code: Unshaded cells in row 1 from left to right.

2 stars of difficulty at least. Interesting rule set once you get used to it. Perhaps the black hole rule looks a bit awkward to me, as it were used to just correct a setting flaw. Anyway, thanks for setting

I felt this ruleset was quite difficult to get used to, and it took me a while to find a good solving rhythm. That might be because I haven't solved many Yin-Yang puzzles before, and the Matter/Antimatter rule makes the sum constraints even trickier to reason about.

That said, the theme is absolutely fantastic. It's what drew me to this puzzle in the first place and kept me motivated to stick with it until I finally solved it. I'll definitely give the larger version a try in the future.

It was a lot of fun and surprisingly challenging for a 1-star puzzle. Thanks for setting!
