Japanese Sums with Cages (9x9)

(Published on 20. July 2026, 14:36 by Rätselmann)

Now let us venture into a slightly larger puzzle (9×9) – theoretically, I think I could even manage up to 12×12. ;)

The usual Japanese Sums rules apply here as well, using the digits 1 to 9. For anyone who is not fully familiar with them, the rules are explained in detail below:

Enter digits from 1 to 9 into some cells and shade the remaining cells black. No digit may appear more than once in any row or column.

The clues outside the grid give the sums of the consecutive blocks of digits in the correct order. Blocks are separated by at least one black cell; the lengths of the blocks are unknown.

A question mark (?) represents an unknown one-digit sum, while ?? represents an unknown two-digit sum.

Dashed cages: The small number is the sum of all digits in the cage. Black cells may appear inside cages and count as 0. No digit may repeat within a cage.

Solution code: Enter the two top rows from left to right without any spaces, for example: 123456780234500603.

Thank you very much for creating and sharing another wonderful JS-puzzle. (Maybe ONE row for the solution code would be enough next time? It’s standard in these days.)

Rätselmann: Danke dir, und ja klar, in Zukunft nur noch eine Zeile als Lösungscode!

I tested my Penpa on different browsers and on different devices, it always came up with a congrats wishing after I filled in the solution. I use normal black number colors and any color for empty cells is allowed (black, grey, green) but not leaving white or empty. Anyway, I won‘t provide Penpa and Sudokupad anymore, it is a pain in the ass anyway :) Sorry for all these botherings, I apologize deeply
