Yin Yang Fillomino with Japanese Sums

(Published on 15. July 2026, 15:45 by isajo4002)

This is a collab between myself, and StormClimber. go check their puzzles out.

Fillomino (1-9): Divide the grid into orthogonally connected regions that are 1-9 cells in size.
Write in each cell the size of its region.
No two regions of the same size may touch orthogonallly.

Yin Yang: Shade some cells in the grid so that all shaded cells are connected orthogonally, and all unshaded cells are connected orthogonally.
No 2x2 region may be entirely shaded or entirely unshaded.

Japanese Sums: Digits outside the grid give the sum of digits in each run of unshaded cells in its respective row or column in order of appearance.
A ? stands for any non-zero integer.
For each row or column either all clues are given or none are.

Solution code: The digits in row 5 followed by the shading in column 8 S for Shaded and U for unshaded

without even starting this puzzle, it should be obvious that it can't be level 2. ANY yy puzzle STARTS at level 2, and even that is unlikely.
include the 2 other variants, each of which adds additional complexity. do the math.

THEN it's a "bobbins" puzzle, which means you can't check something you're unsure of during the solve.

FOR EXPERTS ONLY --> level 3

I think this was pretty close to 3, but having the rating at 2, helped me persevere. fun puzzle.

Thank you very much for creating and sharing this interesting puzzle. (I don’t like unnecessarily complicated solution codes …)

@dmm90: you actually flipped the shading part in the solution code there.
