Here is another chaos construction combining quadruple clues and a line of sight constraint. Difficulty should be around 3/4, with maybe a couple harder clues during the solve. Try the easy example first, as an easy intro to the concept. Note that the puzzle is solvable without the given 9, but it made the irregular resolution much harder than what I was aiming for. Have fun solving!
The puzzle :
Rules :
- Chaos construction : Divide the grid into orthogonally connected 9-cell regions such that each cell is part of exactly one region. Fill the grid with digits 1-9 such that no digit repeats in any row, column or region.
- Quad clues : Digits in a white circle must appear at least once in the four surrounding cells. Each digit must be in a different region from the other digits in the circle. Each digit indicates the number of cells seen horizontally or vertically from the cell where the digit is, including that cell. Region borders block vision. A question mark stands for an unknown digit, to be determined by the solver.
Example puzzle :
Lösungscode: Column 7, with hyphens (-) for region borders. (Example: 123-45-6-7-89)

outstanding. Some parts pulled the wool over my eyes for a bit, but felt a solid 4* for me regardless

What a great puzzle. I did find both the region building and sudoku pretty difficult - but both very fair and extremely rewarding. Christounet thanks very much for setting and sharing!

Really nice puzzle!
Thanks for setting it!
It went super smooth until the 9 clue in the quadruple. I don't think I used the given 9 clue at all. Should that have helped me with the 9 quad region?
---
The given 9 was only here to make the irregular sudoku resolution easier, because I did not want that part to take too much energy compared to the construction part. So that given 9 is indeed not needed as I said in my intro of the puzzle. It is even a nice coloring exercice if you enjoy a harder sudoku. Glad you enjoyed. Thanks for the feedback.

That was a fun puzzle. Initially I was fairly clueless how to even start, but the example puzzle was a great help for understanding the region building patterns.

Brilliant puzzle! Very nice twist on the rules with lovely logic especially region building logic, but also a few sudoku surprises, both because of the quadruple clues. Thanks!
