Musically Keen

(Published on 28. June 2026, 19:58 by The Pi Guy)

A puzzle inspired by my love of music.

Sudoku: Normal sudoku rules apply; put the digits 1 to 9 once each into every row, column & 3 by 3 box.
(U2 - One, Fleetwood Mac - Everywhere)

Fog: The grid is covered in fog, some of which has been cleared. Place digits correctly to clear more fog. Fog may clear at any time and from anywhere in the grid.
(Madness - Grey Day, Lighthouse Family - Lifted, KT Tunstall - Suddenly I See)

Cages: The digits in each cage (area with a dotted outline) must sum to the same total, which is to be deduced.
(Coldplay - In My Place, Keane - Somewhere [Sum Where] Only We Know)

Thermometers: Digits on a thermometer must increase from the bulb (the end with the circle) to the tip.
(M People - Moving On Up)

Renbans: Digits on a purple line (hollow) must form a consecutive sequence in some order, with no repeats (e.g. 1-2-3).
(Snow Patrol - Run)

Nabners: Digits on a yellow line (normal) must not be consecutive (e.g. 1-4-9, no digit is consecutive with any of the others).
(Coldplay - Yellow, Keane - We Might As Well Be Strangers)

Dutch whispers: Digits in cells that are next to each other on an orange line (dashed) must be at least 4 apart (e.g. 1-9-5).
(Imagine Dragons - Amsterdam, Coldplay - A Whisper, Dire Straits - So Far Away)

[All lines go through at least two cells and they never branch or cut off. Lines and thermometers may move diagonally. ]

No repeats on a constraint: When considered together, all clues that follow the same constraint (e.g. renbans) must include each of the digits 1 to 9 exactly once (the renbans could be 1-2-3, 4-5 & 6-7-8-9).
(Keane - Everybody’s Changing, Bryan Adams - The Only One)

Solution code: Ignoring the first and last columns, list the digits on renbans in the order that you would hit them if you moved around the grid in a clockwise spiral, starting from row 9 col 2.
(Beach Boys - I Get Around, Eagles - The Long Run.

Loved the puzzle and only got stuck due to my inability to think properly. Was staring at the puzzle for hours near the end. But finally got to solve it.
Thank you

Very cool puzzle with some nice ideas behind the no repeats rule!

Great use of the no repeat rule, works so well with the fog. (Hint-ish - do note the wording of the final rule). Thanks!
