(Published on 17. June 2026, 07:00 by Flinty)

Previous Dutch Flat Mate Puzzles
This has been a weekly series since '18 Oct 23'. Here is a spreadsheet link for all the previous puzzles in the series, which also has a few teasers for upcoming constraints/guest setters in the series (subject to change).
This alternative link offers a limited LMD search for Dutch Flat Mates.

Special Thanks
The original inspiration for this puzzle was part of the Easy Peasy Sudoku Advent series by Richard:
Easy Peasy Sudoku Advent (22) - Summing Up (2/5).

Initial Setter Difficulty: 2-2.5 / 5

Normal Sudoku rules apply
Place the digits 1-9 so that they do not repeat in any row, column, or 3x3 box.

Dutch Flats
Every 5 in the grid must have a '1' directly above it or a '9' directly below it. It may have both, but it doesn't need both.

Summing Up
Clues outside the grid indicate the sum of the group of ascending digits from that side with the largest sum in that respective row or column.

Hint to start

Where can 9 go in C5?
The clues facing each other are larger than 45, how can that work?

Next Week
I'm delighted to say that Marty Sears has GIVEN more of his time to the Dutch Flat Mates series, and I certainly don't EIGHT (hate) everything about this puzzle, in fact there are MULTIPLE reasons to love it!

Solution code: Row 5 Digits
