Solve in SudokuPad

  • Normal Sudoku rules apply.
  • Nine Men's Morris: Place one man in each row, column and region, each with a different digit.
  • Men Without Hats: None of these men may have a digit in the cell directly above them which is larger than they are.
  • Safety Dance: No two men may be a knight's move (in chess) apart.
  • Where Do The Boys Go: Arrows outside the grid indicate that the man is in the Nth cell in that row or column as seen from that direction, where N is the first digit seen in that direction.
  • Head Above Water: Algebraic clues outside the grid indicate how many digits in that row or column have no greater digit in between them and the clue. "X" in these clues is equal to the digit of the man in that row or column.

Q: can you give an example of the "head above water" rule?

-----

Alchemist says: It's just a regular skyscraper clue, but you have to find out what digit is the "man" in that row or column to work out the number for the clue!
So for example, if the row were 23[4]196785, where [4] is the man, then X would be an appropriate clue, because 2, 3, 4 and 9 have no higher digits in between them and the clue, but the 1 has 2, 3 and 4 in the way, which are larger than 1, and all the others have 9 in the way.

Thanks for the reply. I was misled by the word "them", thinking it referred to the man-digits.
