SLIDE-OKU #0 - A penguin adventure

(Published on 3. June 2026, 02:22 by Jekyll)

This puzzle is the introduction to a puzzle serie involving a penguin sliding on ice while trying to reach his favourite dinner, a delicious shrimp.

RULES:

  • SUDOKU: Normal 6x6 sudoku rules apply.

  • KROPKI: Digits separated by a black dot have a 2:1 ratio (one is double the other). Not all black dots are shown.

  • ICE SLIDING: Draw a path from the penguin to the shrimp. The ground is covered in ice, so when the penguin starts sliding in a direction it cannot stop until it reaches either a wall or a rock. The penguin moves orthogonally. The path can cross itself but not overlap.

  • ROCKS: All rocks share the same digit, to be deduced.

  • In this puzzle, the penguin's path is a valid PARITY LINE (every pair of consecutive cells along the line must contain an even and an odd digit).

Have fun and see you soon for the beginning of the serie!

Solution code: Last 6 digits on the path.

Truly charming once I got the hang of it!

I got very confused at first, because I found a path that seemed to make sense, but I got a strange contradiction that I couldn't figure out, until I realized that there was a slightly different path I could have taken that eventually led me to completing the puzzle. Very fun!

@Neebats: The path changes direction in the cell before the rock.

I'm not sure : does the path go on the rock then turn or does it change direction in the cell before the rock ?

The first time I've done a path building puzzle. I enjoyed it, was very easy to understand, good introduction. Took me around 9 minutes. Well done.

Love this sort of puzzle. Dashed in so quick I made a mistake. Restarted at a sensible pace and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Looking forward to this series. It took a while to understand the rules. Maybe an example might help.

Added orthogonal only moves

@dzamie: you should try it again, it can only move orthogonally! I updated the rules. Thanks!

...y'know, I assumed at the start that the penguin could only travel orthogonally. I wonder how solvable this puzzle is without that assumption.

Looking forward to more puzzles in the series

That‘s a nicer interaction between ice sliding and Sudoku than expected. Thanks for exploring this puzzle type and sharing it with us.
