Three in the Spotlight

(Published on 29. May 2026, 08:35 by Sudokujoker)

Normal sudoku rules apply: place the digits 1-9 once each in every row, column and 3x3 box.

Digits inside a cage sum to the total shown in the top corner of that cage. In this puzzle, no cages may cross a box border.

Full kropki: Black dots join adjacent cells which are in a 1:2 ratio, and white dots join adjacent cells that are consecutive. All possible dots are given.

Dynamic fog: correctly entering a digit will clear fog in that cell and may clear the fog in other cells too.

*Warning - Solution hints below*

I am not sure how to distinguish between the 17 and 125 options for the 8 killer cage in box 4. Following through with the "wrong" case (125) by placing all candidates, only very very cells (R1C1, R1C2, R6C2, R6C3, R7C1 and R7C3) differ from the "right" result (17) and only the 5s and 7s differ. In both cases I could find nothing to contradict your ruleset - could you point out what I missed? Thanks!

Reply: You can't necessarily complete the "8" cage as soon as it appears, but it creates enough restrictions to allow you to fill in several digits in box 4. The 5s and 7s can be disambiguated using the kropki rules. Hope that helps! -SJ
