Kat's First Sudoku: Killer and Thermo, by pmays123

Your dear friend Kat wants to try sudoku construction! She's laid out some clues she'd like to use but doesn't know their function. Can you help Kat construct her first 4x4 sudoku puzzle?

The 4x4 sudoku grid and the cells surrounding it are considered two separate puzzles (i.e., digits in one grid do not interact with digits in the other).

• Normal 4x4 sudoku rules apply in the center 4x4 grid.
• Place a digit from 1-8 in each cell of the outside donut-shaped grid. Digits may not repeat within rows or columns of the donut-shaped grid.

Constructing Kat's puzzle:

• A clue in the outer grid (killer cage or thermometer) filled exclusively with digits from 1-4 must be placed into the 4x4 grid. When placed into the grid, the clue is now empty (i.e., no digits entered) and is used to solve the 4x4 puzzle. You can place the clue anywhere entirely within the 4x4 area, but the orientation of the clue must be the same (i.e., no rotating or reflecting is allowed).
• Clues in the 4x4 grid may overlap if they are of different types; e.g. a thermometer and cage may overlap, but two cages cannot overlap.

The clues Kat wants to use:

• Killer: Digits in a cage don't repeat and always sum to the number in the top left corner of the cage (if given). If no cage sum is given and the cage is used in the 4x4 puzzle, then the sum in the outside grid may differ from the sum in the 4x4 grid. If the cage sum is given, it remains given in the 4x4 puzzle (but may contain different digits).
• Thermometer: Digits on a grey thermometer increase from bulb to tip.
