The Rules of this Puzzle:

Normal sudoku rules apply.

Adjacent digits along orange lines must have a difference of 4 or more.

Each hollow teal line contains one digit from [1,4,7], one digit from [2,5,8] and one digit from [3,6,9].

Digits in cages sum to the small number printed in the top-left corner.

For pairs of digits in cells separated by a black dot, one must be double the other.

What a fun and clever puzzle! One of my favorites yet. For whatever it's worth, I am not a sudoku expert by any means and I've never heard of a swordfish but I found it a nice amount of challenging and it took me just under half hour

This was fun. Reading the comments to this puzzle was also fun. Peak LMD exerience, 5/5 puzzle, or is it 2/5? Anyway, well set :)

I haven't tried the puzzle yet, but the comments are somewhat amusing. If the "easy/obvious" break-in requires a swordfish, then I don't see how 2* can be accurate. That is not a simple technique that's accessible to even many "average" solvers.

I will never beat the swordfish allegations -_-

I have never solved a 5* and 4* puzzles take me at least an hour, usually more, if I manage to solve them. I have never set a puzzle.
This one I did in 17 mins, and felt quite intuitive.
I understand some puzzles feel way harder than their rating sometimes, often it depends on what you are used to as a solver I guess?
If you are so triggered by something like a puzzle rating, maybe worth rethinking why...

I feel it is between a 2* to 2.5*. People are missing the break-in, it will not take hours. 20minute solve for me.
The trick is to see that 5s cannot go on the orange lines in box 1 4 & 7. So, 5 forms a swordfish with column 6. Thus giving the 8 cage in box 9.

definitely not level 2.
and, because i think claims should be based on EVIDENCE and FACTS, here's the specific reason why.

solution
1) locate the 579 in col 6.
2) identify the 2 cage fill pairs in box 8.

and THAT'S IT for the easy stuff. even though i actually hit on the right idea quickly, i still had to BIFURCATE for an hour before i found the pressure points.

3) try c6r7 = 5. box 8 cage is 24. need 2 more low digits on box 8 dw line. box 8 kropki breaks.

4) try 26 fill for box 9 cage. this forces 1379 into the other col 9 cages. remaining col 9 cells are 458. box 9 kropki is 48. box 9 mod line must have 54x. box 8 cage breaks.

5) try 17 fill for box 9 cage. box 9 mod line needs 4. box 8 cage is 15. other col 9 cages are 2468. remaining col 9 cells are 395.

6) we now have an x-wing on 5s. and TA-DA, dw squares can't have a 5. so, col 1 breaks.

now, try telling me with a straight face that that SEQUENCE is "easy".

but here we are, more than an hour in, and we don't even have a DIGIT yet, only a cage fill.

don't get me wrong, this is a great puzzle, and solves very smoothly once you figure it out, and there is likely an easier solution than what i showed, based on the excluded 5s in box 7.
but it's level 3

the difficulty rating should have a RATIONAL basis, not ad hoc or opinion-based, and also not using the FALSE ASSUMPTION that all sudoku fans are experts or setters. (because the vast majority of them are not).

thus, level 2 needs to mean something like "fairly easy for experts, and hard but doable for non-experts". this puzzle does not qualify.

Like the break in - something old that felt new.

In my opinion not a 2*, but maybe I missed an easier trick :)

This puzzle rating 2* is the evidence that this site's difficulty ratings has lost its basis to non-solvers completely. This is not easy. I don't understand why people try to lower ratings. There's no point putting high difficulties to the moon.
