Arithmetic symbols: the digit in the square containing a symbol is the result of performing that operation on all of the adjacent squares pointed to by the symbol.
Specifically the digit in a cell with a
+ : is the sum of up to 4 orthogonally adjacent cells
- : is the difference of the adjacent cells to the E and W in some order
x : is the product of up to 4 diagonally adjacent cells
/ : is the quotient of the adjacent cells to the NE and SW in some order

Neat! It did feel like a little bit of bifurcation was necessary at times, but most of the puzzle was solvable pretty well without it.
