Some Odd Arrows

(Published on 20. January 2026, 00:36 by Sneppix)

Some Odd Arrows

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.

  • Digits in cells containing one or more arrows equal the total number of cells in the indicated direction(s) combined that are the same parity as the digit in the arrow cell (e.g. if a cell that contained two arrows--one pointing up and one pointing right--was found to be a 3, then of the cells that are above or to the right of that arrow cell, a combined total of exactly 3 of them must be odd).

  • Circles contain odd digits. Squares contain even digits.

I liked the way this unfolded. Very nice.

Editing example in the rule description relating to what to do for cells that contain more than one arrow to (hopefully) make it more clear.

Excellent puzzle. Ideal difficulty for myself. My only qualm is the rule description. I found myself similarly confused to steperlich initially. I interpreted the rules to mean a cell with 3 arrows, filled in with a 3, would have 3 odd numbers in each arrow direction. But instead, the rule entails it would have 1 odd number in each direction, and a 3 arrow cell, filled in with 9, would have 3 odd numbers in each direction.
