Rules

  • Use digits 1-9 to fill the grid entirely..

  • Fillomino: Divide the grid into regions (polyominoes) made up of orthogonally connected cells. Fill them with digits representative of the polyomino's size. No two same size polyomioes can be orthogonally adjacent. Every cell is in a polyomino.

  • <<Fillomino>>: In addition to regular Fillomino, divide the grid into regions such that, 1. Digits do not repeat in it. 2. No two regions of the same size share an edge. 3. Every region has exactly one cell containing a small clue in the corner. 4. Every cell is in such a region

  • A small clue in the corner of a cell tells the size of its <<Fillomino>> region. "?" represents any number from 1-9.

  • Example with different coloring schemes

The puzzle leaves a slightly bitter aftertaste after all. Don’t get me wrong, this is a wonderful puzzle, being difficult until the very end. But it requires devastating brainpower to get through until the end and discover the (I’d say 5) needles planted in this (enormous) haystack to have a tiny bit of progress and have your deserved break-in.

So I’m partially aligned with the now-deleted comment that the effort was enormous to the reward, it felt too artificial and ad hoc for any progress gained. But after having solved it I changed my mind and consider it a very well-versed construction, even though the grid is too extensive to my taste.

Also beware to make any - I mean literally any - assumptions about any movement of any regions. Do not presume anything as 99% it will be false no matter how solid your conjecture might be as there are virtually no restrictions at all present, despite being somehow restrained it retains a plethora of movements. That is, until you spot the right move - all over the grid - to proceed.

Ridiculously hard puzzle, but in the end totally with of all the (many) hours spent. Liked the idea behind the puzzle too. Thank you, Justalilguy, that was a great adventure!

I would also appreciate if the author would share his intended solution path in a hidden message if that’s possible to check my own reasoning and to get a glimpse of how gifted people set such puzzles.

To the member who solved this as a first fillomino: you’re literally a person of genius as it feels akin to integrating the bell curve in 9 grade, plausible, but highly unlikely for common people.

Thank you for such detailed feedback and for the nice words :) I could definitely do a solve path thingy, but I don't know when I will get the time, as it's very long. But in the meantime, message me on Discord (https://discord.gg/Xxgwt7ps) regarding any spots you felt stuck on or not quite satisfied with.

Glad I got to test and solve this monster of a puzzle. Very intricate, very pretty, and a consistent difficulty up until the very last minutes. It’s a long solve but it is so worth it!
