Snakes and States

(Eingestellt Gestern, 20:20 Uhr von logicanimal)

Rules:
1. Place 2 stars in the upper-left rectangular region and fill the rest of the cells with the given symbols (see below). Symbols may be rotated as needed. Some symbols are already placed but may have the wrong orientation.
2. No symbols may repeat within a dotted cage. The stars may be in the same cage.
3. Identify a 28-cell long snake that starts and ends with the stars. Then, divide the rest of the region into 2-cell snakes. A “snake” is an orthogonally connected path of length at least 2. A snake may never touch itself, not even diagonally.
4. When reading along the long snake from head to tail, it must reveal in chronological order, either the first or the latest 13 states to join US (see below for the order).
5. When reading left-to-right/top-to-bottom for horizontal/vertical short snakes, they must reveal (in any order) the other 13 states.
6. Overall, there must be exactly 13 states that appear horizontally and 13 vertically.

The first 13 states in order:
DE, PA, NJ, GA, CT, MA, MD, SC, NH, VA, NY, NC, RI
The latest 13 states in order:
CO, ND, SD, MT, WA, ID, WY, UT, OK, NM, AZ, AK, HI

Listed here for convenience, the following letters are equivalent:
A=D, C=S=U, E=M=W, G=O, H=I, J=P, K=V, L=T, N=Z, R=Y

You can solve the puzzle here.

This is one of 12 disjoint puzzles I made this year with varying styles/difficulties themed around snakes and 2025.
Enjoy!

Lösungscode: For each row, count the number of cells that contain any of the following symbols: Z/S/N/U/C.
