Nine Ball

(Published on 15. November 2025, 13:11 by RockyRoer)

The Rules:

  1. [Sudoku] Normal sudoku rules apply.
  2. [Sandwich] Each clue outside the grid represents the sum of the digits sandwiched between the 1 and 9 in that row or column.
  3. [Quadruples] Each 'ball' in the grid contains one of the digits from 1 to 9 with no repeats, some of which must be deduced. The digit in a ball must be in one of the four surrounding cells.

The Puzzle:

Try it using Sven's Sudokupad

Solution code: The digits in the three balls in box 9 from left to right. (Yeah I know... there's only 60 possible codes... you got this spammers!!)

Terrific puzzle! There are a few steps which are tricky to spot, but once you see them they seem easy and almost obvious. That's a sign of a well designed puzzle.

I hope you'll decline zeniko's strange suggestion. Puzzles which omit the solution check can be very frustrating! I usually just skip them.

There was one tricky step in the mid-solve, a beautiful break-in and a nice final puzzle at the end. I rate this puzzle 9/9. Thanks for sharing.

BTW.: I like short solution codes. Have you considered omitting the solution check in SudokuPad as compensation?

Very tricky but very rewarding! Felt more like 4* to me.

This sandwich nearly broke my teeth! You have to chew very carefully, but then - what a lovely taste! The placement of the balls came out perfect. Thank you very much for creating and sharing another amazing sandwich variation.
