Unruly (6x6 wrogn)

(Published on 15. October 2025, 00:35 by jwsinclair)

Unruly, by James Sinclair

This is my attempt at a wrogn puzzle where each type of clue appears only once. It was originally published as the Prime Week Bonus Puzzle in Artisanal Sudoku, Volume 197 (any time the volume number is prime, I include an extra puzzle that's still meant to be approachable-ish, but features more unusual rules than the regular fare).

SudokuPad | version with labels (for line and outside clues)

Normal 6x6 sudoku rules apply.
All clues are "standard", but in the solved grid, all clues must be filled incorrectly.

For each clue that appears in the grid, the *correct* definition is given below:
Killer cage (black): the sum of the digits inside a cage is equal to the small number in the top left corner.
Look and Say cage (blue): the first digit in the top-left corner indicates the number of times the second digit appears in a cage (e.g. a clue of 24 would mean that there are two 4s in the cage).
Arrow: the sum of the digits along an arrow is equal to the digit in the connected circle.
Thermometer: digits increase from the bulb.
Between line: digits on gray lines are between the digits in the circles at each end.
German whisper: adjacent digits along green lines differ by at least 3.
Renban: purple lines contain a set of consecutive digits.
Palindrome: gray lines (without circles or bulbs) contain the same sequence of digits in either direction.
Parity line: digits along red lines alternate between even and odd.
Modular line: along teal lines, every set of three (or fewer) adjacent cells contains digits with different remainders when divided by three.
Quadruple circle: digits inside white circles appear in one of the four cells surrounding that circle.
Digits separated by a V sum to 5.
Digits separated by an X sum to 10.
Digits in cells with a shaded square are even.
Digits in cells with a shaded circle are odd.
Digits separated by a white dot are consecutive.
Digits separated by a black dot have a 1:2 ratio.
Diagonal Sum: black numbers outside the grid give the sum of the digits along the indicated diagonal.
Numbered Room: red numbers outside the grid indicate the digit that appears in the Nth cell in that direction, where N is the digit in the cell immediately adjacent to the clue.
X-Sum: green numbers outside the grid indicate the sum of the first X digits in that direction, where X is the digit in the cell immediately adjacent to the clue.
Skyscraper: blue numbers outside the grid indicate the number of digits visible in that direction, where higher digits block the view of lower digits.
