Large Destruction

(Eingestellt am 7. November 2025, 00:00 Uhr von NXTMaster)

This puzzle is the fourth in a series where I challenged myself to make a Destruction puzzle for each square grid size from 4x4 to 9x9.

The rules are as follows:
  • Place the digits 1-7 once in every row and column.
  • Chaos Destruction: All given regions must be "destroyed" by making sure they do not contain all the digits 1-7. The grid also consists of seven hidden, orthogonally connected regions that each do contain all the digits 1-7. Digits in circles represent how many of its orthogonally and diagonally adjacent cells, including itself, belong to both the given and hidden regions where the circle resides (i.e., where they overlap).

  • The puzzle is available on SudokuPad with answer check on only the sudoku digits but also available on Penpa+ with answer check on sudoku digits and hidden region boundaries using the Green Edge tool (mark the perimeter/border). Have fun destroying!

Lösungscode: Row 1 (left to right). Include a "-" to separate digits belonging to different hidden regions.

Always nice to see construction-style rulesets being looked at. Too bad puzzles like these don't get as many solves.
Challenge: when you're done with this series I'll try to make some destruction-style puzzles, and you can try to make some fillomino construction or similar puzzles. Feel free to put a spin on it.

This felt really satisfying, using a number of different bits of logic from regular sudoku, from chaos construction, and unique to this deconstruction rule.
I don't think I ever actively used the "all old regions must not be valid" bit, but I think that's fine.

This was my first Destruction puzzle and I really enjoyed it! It's a cool idea and nicely implemented here

Thank you! Even though I made these "Destruction" puzzles a few years ago, the variant didn't really catch on as much as "Construction" and "Deconstruction" did...
