Opposing Elements

(Eingestellt Gestern, 11:48 Uhr von dingdongeu)

My second puzzle in my series of using constraints to attempt to create entertaining themes.

In this entry, I wanted to set a puzzle with the constraint that each instance of an element cannot share any digits with another instance of the same element. Due to the strength of this constraint its not the most tricky puzzle, but still entertaining, I think.

- Sudoku: Normal sudoku rules apply.
- Unique black Kropki: Cells joined by a black Kropki dot have a ratio of 1:2. Any numbers seen in one instance of a black Kropki dot cannot be seen in another instance of a black Kropki dot.
- Unique white Kropki: Cells joined by a white Kropki dot are consecutive. Any numbers seen in one instance of a white Kropki dot cannot be seen in another instance of a white Kropki dot.
- Killer cage: Digits in a cage must sum up to the digit in the top left of the cage and cannot repeat.
- Unique Renban: The purple Renban line contains a set of consecutive digits in any order. Digits appearing in one Renban line cannot appear in another Renban line.
- Unique German Whispers: Any cells joined by a green German Whispers line must have a difference of at least 5. Digits appearing in one German Whispers line cannot appear in another.
- Unique Region Sum: For each blue line, digits have an equal sum for each box they pass through. Digits seen in one region sum line will not appear in another seperate region sum line.
- Unique X sum: Cells connected by an X must sum to 10. Different instances of the X sum cannot have the same resolution.

Play it on Sudokupad here.

Lösungscode: Column 7, top to bottom.

Slight changes to the wording of the rules.

Thx for the puzzke. I DO like those puzzles very much.
But i agree with Snuggles. The wording for the RSL is very confusing. I only understood these rule after i had solved the puzzle without using the "unique region sum" rule

Not a fan of these rules.
There's 3 different uniqueness rules with the same name pattern:
1- normal uniqueness rule, you can't repeat the digit at all within the same constraint.
2- the RSL one, where you can't repeat it but just in the same line (which is not worded properly either)
3- killer cages uniqueness, which doesn't even come into play! Seems like you just wanted to have the word unique there, so you had the solver carefully read and digest yet another rule for no reason.
Sorry for being so negative, but it's just a mess.

Love negative constraint puzzles. Your use of “instance” for region sum lines was confusing at first.
Beautiful puzzle
