Squïsh Smörgåsbord

(Eingestellt am 22. September 2025, 12:05 Uhr von ChinStrap)

Made for a Scojo Setting Saturday prompt about using an assortment of different constraints but only once each. Thanks to the myriad of testers, and especially gdc for letting me adapt his rules formatting.

Rules:

SQUISHDOKU:

  • Place the digits 1 to 9 in the grid so that digits do not repeat in rows, columns, or the 3x3 boxes marked by the dotted lines. Digits on dotted lines exist in multiple boxes.
LINE CONSTRAINTS:
  • REN: Digits on a renban line don't repeat and form a single consecutive run (like 234) when sorted.
  • GW: Adjacent digits along a German whisper line differ by 5 or more.
  • DW: Adjacent digits along a Dutch whisper line differ by 4 or more.
  • PAR: Digits on a parity line must alternate between odd and even.
  • MOD: The modular line must have one digit from each of [147], [258], and [369].
  • ENT: The entropic line must have one from each of [123], [456], and [789].

OTHER CONSTRAINTS:

  • X: Digits on an X (box 1) sum to 10.
  • V: Digits on a V (box 3) sum to 5.
  • ODD/EVEN: The digit in the circle (r1c4) is odd, the digit in the square (r7c4) is even.

All feedback (positive or critical) appreciated!

Lösungscode: Row 6, left to right (7 digits)

Really beautifully set squishdoku! I love a puzzle that sort of teaches you how to solve it *while* you're solving it. Definitely not easy, and it was pretty tough to find any purchase for a long while, but eventually, as I started realizing what to be looking for, the clogs cleared up and I got there in the end. Really fun and satisfying!

Squishdokus always mess with my head a bit, but it was still an amazing puzzle.

I loved how, my solve at least, went step by step through the clues for a good while. I actually found it harder to finish the puzzle than work out the break in, weird I know.

Great puzzle. Tricky but very interesting how it was forced to work out. Thanks!

One of the most fun squishdokus I've had the pleasure of solving.

Liked the surprising interactions between the different line types.

Thank you for this fun construction, ChinStrap! I rated it 3*, but it also took me a while to grasp the break-in concept. As Marty told, Squishdoku works in its own magical ways. And the variety of clue types made interesting interactions pop up everywhere. Absolutely lovely puzzle!

What a fantastic and slick construction! Very hard for me (I rated it 4 stars!) as it was not easy at all for me to see how all the lines affected each other, and add this to the natural complexities of squishdoku, I found it quite a challenge and needed a couple of hints. But, it was an incredibly satisfying challenge, and I loved the moment when I realised how the diamond and square must work. Squishdoku then did its surprisingly powerful work to fill in digits all around the grid in a magical way. Even towards the end it remained a challenge, with the last line disambiguating the final 'deadly pattern' in the most gorgeous fashion.

Tough but totally worth it! Thoroughly recommend
