Normal 9x9 sudoku rules : place the digits 1 to 9 exactly once in every row, column and 3x3 box.
X-Sums Variant: Digits outside the grid indicate the sum of the first N digits, where N is the digit in the FARTHEST cell on the row or column of the clue.

this is actually easier for inexperienced solvers, because the experts will be certain of things like "you can't do 22 in 6 cells"
