Ernst the Elephant

Ernst kind of appeared to me from a palindrome idea I was working on, and I'm so glad he did! I hope you like him too!

Here in Germany the children love an elephant called Benjamin Blümchen. Looking at this grid he surely would shout out his famous „Törööö!“ Thank you very much for creating and sharing this lovely puzzle.

>>>NSM here - Benjamin sounds like a charming fellow! Maybe Ernst is his cousin?

100% true story: When I was a kid growing up in Dover, Delaware, my mother worked for a really nice man named Ernst Dannemann. He once threw a party at his house for all his employees, and as a special treat for the kids, he arranged for a baby elephant to attend the party. First time I ever touched an elephant. It was surprising to 8-year old me not only that they had hair, but that the hair was sharp like little needles. How's that for an unexpected juxtaposition between Sudoku and real life?

>>>NSM here - I went searching for information on your Mr. Dannemann, and I found his memorial page. I'm not surprised that a man of his background, especially with family members surviving the Holocaust, wanted to make sure that the children of Dover had happy childhoods! I would have been surprised by the baby elephant too, I think.
