Limitations 10

Thank you everyone who has solved these limitations puzzles. This last puzzle should be on the easy side, and I encourage everyone to give it a try.

Play in Sudokupad

Normal sudoku rules apply.

Limitations: Digits do not repeat in any cage or on any same colored line or same colored dot (rules 1-7 below).

1. Digits in a cage sum to the number given.

2. Digits do not repeat on the marked diagonal (purple line)

3. The blue Region Sum line has three segments of equal value. The segment value is the sum of its cells.

4. Adjacent digits on a green German Whisper line have a difference of five or more.

5. Adjacent digits on an orange Dutch Whisper line have a difference of four or more.

6. Black dots connect cells in a 2:1 ratio.

7. White dots connect consecutive digits.

The grid is partially covered in fog. Placing correct digits may clear fog somewhere in the grid.

Lösungscode: Column 9 top to bottom.

Thought it was brilliant, going to find your other limitations puzzles.

I will clarify the rule by posting this comment, since it seems unclear to solvers:
Like the previous 12 puzzles with a limitations rule, the word "any" means that a digit cannot repeat on any of the two orange lines, or in any of the two cages etc. For each constraint (rules 1-7) there are no repeated digits.

Loved it, but once I revealed the second cage with no number I had to come here to read the comments on the rules

Agree with TheNineElements. I jumped to the conclusion that digits don't repeat in a cage, not across every cage. Once I go that it flowed pretty well. Very nice puzzle. A couple of little parts that tested a level 1 like myself but all pretty logical if you keep checking the rules and constraints of them.

I rated this 1/5 difficulty

Nice FoW puzzle!

Overall, I felt that the puzzle was quite approachable - although there were a few places/steps that were a bit tricky (but still totally fair). I think this puzzle is on the harder end of 1*. The puzzle had several nice steps in the solve path & it demonstrated some cool ideas throughout.

I think the puzzle is definitely underrated so far (currently 85%), but I think this is do to confusion about the rules. I felt like the wording for the "constraint-type non-repeating digit" rule was unclear. When I first read the rules, I thought that the non-repeating constraint only applied to an individual line/cage/clue - not to the set of all digits on a given type of clue/constraint. I.e., I didn't realize that the two revealed cages (early stage of the solve) formed a set of non repeating digits - I just thought that the rule meant that neither cage could have a repeated digit. The same confusion applies to the dutch whisper clues: I didn't realize that a digit on the bottom dutch whisper could NOT appear on the top one.

I think the rule could be phrased a bit more clearly, as it is an essential component to the solve logic. Maybe phrasing something like:

"Digits may not repeat across different instances of the same constraint type. That is, all digits that appear on a given type of constraint (e.g., all cages, or all whisper lines) must be distinct across those constraints."

Either way, once I realized what the rules were actually "saying", the solve was fun & very enjoyable. Thanks for sharing!
