Top Right Boi (Numbered Region Chaos Construction)

(Published on 23. June 2025, 03:57 by MaizeGator)

Inspired by sfushidahardy’s interpretation of “Top Right Boi” as a region-building constraint, and further inspired by an awesome ruleset invented (?) by Jesper and later executed brilliantly by tallcat, I bring to you the next installment in the Top Right Boi series. Enjoy!

Rules:
  • Chaos Construction: Divide the grid into nine regions consisting of nine connected cells each. Place the digits 1-9 into every row, column, and region.

  • Top Right Boi: Each region contains a “Top Right Boi” cell. The region may not contain any cells in columns to the right of the Top Right Boi, nor may it contain any cells in rows above the Top Right Boi. The digit in the Top Right Boi is also the region number.

  • Arrows: A digit X in a cell with an arrow lies in region N, and indicates that the cell X steps away in the arrow’s direction is located in region (N+1). (For clarity, there is no "wrapping", i.e. cells in region 9 may not point at region 1.)

This example image is solely meant as an illustration of the rules, not a logically solvable puzzle. (Click the example puzzle image to solve in Penpa)

Solution code: Row 8, with "-" for region borders (excluding grid borders)

Quite fun! Very cool extension of the region pointing, with a fun meme-y flair... enjoyed the top right implications and how this all shook out in the solve. Thank you!

Clarifying question: Can a cell in Region 9 contains an arrow?

-no, there is no “looping”, so region 9 is indeed without arrows

-cool, thank you!

Love it when the break-in is a tutorial for the ruleset.
