Dutch Flat Mates: Y-Sums

(Published on 18. June 2025, 08:36 by Crusader175)

Y-Sums is a variant that I really liked a lot. The variant is like a hybrid between X-Sums and Numbered Rooms indexing that blends well. Hope you had fun solving the puzzle!

Other puzzles from Dutch Flat Mates series created by Flinty can be found in this spreadsheet.
Rules:

Normal sudoku rules apply.

Dutch Flat Mates: Every 5 in the grid must have a 1 directly above it or a 9 directly below it. It may have both, but it doesn't need both.

Y-Sums: Clues outside the grid indicate the sum of the first Y digit(s) in the corresponding direction. Y is the digit placed in the Xth cell in the corresponding direction, where X is the digit placed in the first cell in that direction.

Never tried to solve a Y-sums puzzle before. At some points I was close to give up - too much pain for my brain! In the end I was exhausted but also satisfied. Thank you very much for creating and sharing this lovely monster.

Reply: Thank you for persevering Franjo!

Looks like somebody cheated. The solve count here is currently higher than on SudokuPad.

Reply: This is new sudokupad link. Some test solve it using older link.

Very nice (max3* if catching break in soon). Thanks.

Reply: There's a mixed result on testing with 3* or 4*. Thanks marcmees!

Very nice puzzle, Y-Sums are lush. It would definitely be a 3/5 if our brains weren't already wired to X-Sums. :)

Reply: Appreciate the test solve and kind comment Flinty!
